Leaving Malcesine we go along the West Coast passing Villa Feltrinelli, residence of Mussolini until we get to the famous Island of Garda. Here we go on towards Sirmione where there will be a short stop. From here we go towards Garda, where there is another stop before going back to Malcesine along the coast.

It is a picturesque small town, on the riviera of the East Gardesana, on the slopes of Mount Baldo. The superb Scaligero Castle of the XIII cent. rises on a promontory overlooking the Lake. Malcesine is a health-resort and a famous much frequented tourist place. Mount Baldo cableway carries one, in a short time, from the mediterranean climate of the Lake to a height of 1800 mt through a series of panoramic views of great beauty.

It is the largest and finest island on the lake, with luxuriant parks and a beautiful private Venetian villa.

The peninsula of Sirmione projecting form the South over the blue waters of Benaco for about 4 kms. is much frequented for the splendour of its landscape and for the thermal treatments. Three hills rise inside, the first, eastward, is called "Cortine" the second, westward "Malvino" the third northward, between the two, is called "Catullus' Caves" centre of the archaeological zone of an ancient Roman palace.

It lies in the middle of a wonderful gulf with very curved banks and is protected, northward, by the slopes of mount Baldo, southward by the fortress, and eastward by slow, moraine heights. The Gardesana route, among villas and olive yards unites the town to S. Vigilio headland. Some traces of the neolithic period installations were that time Garda gave the name to the Lake, once called Benaco.
